Microsoft recently released the Windows 10 October 2018 Update which had a lot of issues, the main being users’ files getting deleted but now Microsoft has decided that it will block the update on devices which are not compatible with the update.
Microsoft is blocking the update on devices which have an incompatible version of iCloud for Windows (version 188.8.131.52) installed. In a support document, Microsoft says that Apple has identified the issue of iCloud and is working to fix the issue.
“Apple has identified an incompatibility with iCloud for Windows (version 184.108.40.206) where users may experience issues updating or synching Shared Albums after updating to Windows 10, version 1809.
Users who attempt to install iCloud for Windows (version 220.127.116.11) on Windows 10, version 1809 will see a message stating that this version of iCloud for Windows isn’t supported, and the installation will fail.
To ensure a seamless experience, Microsoft is blocking devices with iCloud for Windows (version 18.104.22.168) software installed from being offered Window 10, version 1809 until this issue has been resolved.
We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update using the Update Now button or the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft software download website until this issue is resolved.”
The users will experience an unexpected issue while syncing the Shared Albums which is the main cause of incompatibility with the latest Windows 10 update.
To ensure that nothing wrong happens again, Microsoft has blocked the update on devices which have the incompatible version of iCloud installed.
The company is also suggesting to the users that they should not manually update the device and wait until a fix has been released.
Both the companies are aware of this issue and are working together on a fix to resolve this issue which will soon be released. After the issue has been resolved, the update will be available on the devices running iCloud.
If you are a user that has already installed the Windows 10 October 2018 Update then attempting to install iCloud version 22.214.171.124 will result in an error encounter which will say that “this version of iCloud for Windows isn’t supported” and installation process will not continue.
