How to delete files in iCloud Drive?

iCloud basic storage is 5 GB and it can easily be filled up with some of your photos, videos and files. Most users face this issue that their iCloud drive easily get filled up and they run out of storage.

If you are running low on storage on your iCloud drive and want to clear out some space then you can do it easily by following the steps below and clear out storage space on your iCloud drive.

iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch:

For iOS 11 or later:

  1. Go to Files App > Browse.
  2. Under the locations tab, look for iCloud Drive.
  3. Tap on iCloud Drive and then Select.
  4. Choose the files that you want to delete and then tap on the delete icon.
  5. To completely remove the files, go to Locations > Recently Deleted > Select.
  6. Choose the files that you permanently want to delete and then Tap Delete to completely remove those files.

For iOS 10.3 or earlier:

  1. Go to iCloud Drive App > Select.

  2. Select the files/folder that you want to delete.
  3. Tap on Delete > Delete from iCloud Drive.

Mac:

If you have a Mac device running macOS High Sierra or later version then you can easily manage your iCloud Drive files from the iCloud Drive folder in the Finder.

  1. If iCloud Drive is turned off on your Mac then;
    1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
    2. Log in with your Apple ID.
    3. Turn on iCloud Drive.
    4. In Options, make sure that you select the apps or folders and files that you want to manage.
  2. Open Finder and go to the iCloud Drive folder on your Mac.
  3. Select any file or folder that you want to delete and Move it to Trash.
  4. Open Trash and then select the files that you want to delete permanently.
  5. Click on Delete Immediately to delete those files permanently.

Windows:

For Windows PC Users running Windows 7 or later, they can manage iCloud Drive files from Windows Explorer.

  1. Download and Install iCloud for Windows.
  2. Log in with your Apple ID.
  3. Turn on iCloud Drive.
  4. Go to the iCloud Drive folder.
  5. Select the files or folders you want to delete.
  6. Right-click and then click Delete.

iCloud.com

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com from any browser.
  2. Click on the iCloud Drive app.
  3. Select the files that you want to delete then click on Delete icon.
  4. To permanently delete files, open the iCloud Drive folder > Recently Deleted.
  5. Select the files or folders that you want to delete.
  6. Click on Delete to permanently delete those files.
