How to delete backups and turn off iCloud Backup for your device?

iCloud is a very useful service that Apple provides to its user. You can store your data from your Apple device onto the iCloud drive and access it later when you need it. You can save everything from Photos to Backup of whole Apple device which is really handy and useful.

Unfortunately, the base storage of iCloud is 5 GB which is free for every user and compared to the file sizes nowadays, 5 GB seems very little. If you want to free your iCloud drive storage space then follow the steps below.

How to delete iCloud backups and turn them off for your device:

For iOS devices(iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch)

(iOS 10.3 or later):

  1. Go to Settings > (your name) > iCloud.

  2. For iOS 11 devices, tap on Manage Storage > Backups.
  3. For iOS 10.3 devices, tap on iCloud Storage > Manage Storage.

  4. Tap on the name of the device which you are using.
  5. Tap on Delete Backup and then Turn Off & Delete.

(iOS 10.2 or earlier):

  1. Go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage.
  2. Under the iCloud section, tap on Manage Storage.
  3. Tap on the name of the device which you are using.
  4. Tap on Delete Backup and then Turn Off & Delete.

When you delete a backup for any of your devices then it will also turn off the iCloud Backup of your device.

For Mac Users:

  1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
  2. Look for Manage and click on it and select Backups.
  3. There you will be shown with the device backups that are stored on the iCloud drive, select the device’s backup that you want to delete and then click on Delete.
  4. To turn off the Backup and remove all of the backups of that device from the iCloud drive, choose to delete when the confirmation popup will appear.

When you delete a backup then the backup of that device will also be turned off.

For Windows PC users:

  1. Open iCloud on your Windows PC.
  2. Click on Storage and select Backup from the shown items.
  3. All the backups that are stored on the iCloud drive will be shown to you, select the device’s backup that you want to delete and then click on Delete.
  4. To turn off the Backup and remove all of the backups of that device from the iCloud drive, choose to delete when the confirmation popup will appear.

When you delete a backup then the backup of that device will also be turned off.

*Note: iCloud backups are available for 180 days after you disable or stop using iCloud Backup.
