How to choose which apps to back up to iCloud?

iCloud, is one of the services that you get by being an Apple user. It is a cloud service provided by Apple which allows you to save your files, images, videos, and apps on the iCloud’s Drive.

When you set up iCloud on any of your Apple device then you get 5 GB of storage free from Apple. This storage space can be used to store your photos, videos, documents and apps in iCloud drive.

5 GB is the basic storage space that you get for free but if you need more storage space, then you can buy more iCloud Storage from Apple. 5 GB of space isn’t much as it can be filled easily with some photos and videos.

How to check your iCloud Storage Space?

To check your iCloud Storage Space, on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch:

(For iOS 10.3 and later)

  • Go to Settings > (Device Name) > iCloud > iCloud Storage/Manage Storage.

(For iOS 10.2 and earlier)

  • Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage.

(For Mac)

  • Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage.

How to choose which apps to back up to iCloud?

If you using an iOS device and you have iCloud enabled then the storage space may get filled up very easily. This is due to the fact that iOS apps automatically back up to iCloud drive as you install them.

To clear your storage space, you can choose which apps to back up and also remove existing backups from your iCloud Drive. From your iOS device(iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch), follow these steps:

(For iOS 10.3 and later)

  1. Go to Settings > (Device Name) > iCloud.
  2. For iOS 11 users, Manage Storage > Backups.
  3. For iOS 10.3 users, iCloud Storage > Manage Storage.

  4. Tap on the device which you are using (e.g if you are using iPhone then select your iPhone)

  5. Under the Choose Data to Back Up tab, you can unselect any apps that you don’t want to backup.
  6. Choose Turn Off & Delete.

(For iOS 10.2 and earlier)

  1. Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage.
  2. Tap on the device which you are using (e.g if you are using iPhone then select your iPhone)
  3. Under the Backup Options, you will see the apps which are backed up.
  4. Turn off any apps that you do not want to back up.
  5. Choose Turn Off & Delete.

When you remove an app from iCloud, iCloud Backup for that app(s) will be turned off and all of its information will be removed from iCloud drive.
