Another victim of the 2014 Celebgate scandal, Ryan Collins has pleaded guilty to hacking charge this year in which he was involved in leaking the nude photos of many female celebrities and now he has been sentenced 18 months in federal prison by the authorities.

According to the prosecutors, Ryan Collins, 36, belonging to Pennsylvania used some kind of phishing scheme in order to gain the login credentials of certain celebrities.

He obtained the login credentials of “at least 50 iCloud accounts and 72 Gmail accounts, most of which belonged to female celebrities” over a time frame of almost two years.

The Justice Department said in a statement that:

“He sent e-mails to victims that appeared to be from Apple or Google and asked victims to provide their usernames and passwords. After illegally accessing the e-mail accounts, Collins obtained personal information including nude photographs and videos. In some instances, Collins would use a software program to download the entire contents of the victims’ Apple iCloud backups.”

Collins faced as much as five years in prison due to the crime he committed but as a part of his plea deal, it was recommended by the prosecutors that he should be sentenced to 18 months of prison only.

Officials say that Collins started running the phishing hack from November 2012 to September 2014 and obtained the private photos of female celebrities.

Nude pictures of many female celebrities were released in an event called “Celebgate” or “The Fappening” in which the photographs of Jennifer Lawrence, Avril Lavigne, and Kate Upton were leaked online. However, it should be noted that investigators said that they found no evidence whatsoever that Collins leaked the nude photos himself.
